Screwed up my data file

I have been using Money v3 for a while and while it is not the best with the reports, I find it pretty to use and have been hoping the next version would bring some better features. So I went ahead to purchase 4.02. Upon running the application, it updates the data file. When the applicaiton finally opens, I realized that the balance of my accounts are all off from what it used to be. I am totally disappointed with the quality of this upgrade. Also the previous version had a "today" indicator in the transaction list view that makes it easy to tell apart the future transactions from past transactions and it seems that feature is removed. Sigh, what have you done Jumsoft?

They take your money & run

I have had this software for over 1 year. As soon as they start changing versions you will have problems synching with your Iphone which can also result in crashes on your phone. My last problem required me to reinput 2 weeks worth of data because it would not synch. Their solution is to have you buy the bext version to allow it to synch. Although I like the application their customer suport is very bad and you have to keep paying for upgrades. I am going to try & find another comapny taht has better

Looks good, works okay.

I tried the demo versions of a handful of finance apps before choosing to go with Money. Its by far the most visually appealing and it handles basic functions fine. Data imports in excel formats didnt work properly for me but in quicken format they loaded fine. The program itself is quality. Its 90% there but it needs additional functionality to be great. The budgeting function needs to be better thought out. I find the budgeting income progress bar stupid and frustrating visually. If I say my monthly budget is $2k I dont need a bar telling me Im in the red because its day 1 through 27 of the month and I havent gotten my paycheck yet. There needs to be more intelligent timing options as well. I want to view quarterly reports and set quarterly budget categories. For example my clothing budget isnt a monthly thing its quarterly and if I happen to buy a coat in October and nothing the 2 months prior I dont need my software to tell me I went overbudget. Other competitors apps have options for scheduling your wages on a biweekly basis and prorating your monthly budgets to account for the 2 extra paychecks you see over the course of the year which was weird at first but now I think its almost a necessity. I also purchased the corresponding iPhone app. Its decent, full featured and the sync is farily smooth. However upon syncing I found that the data on my computer finds its way to my phone and the transactions entered on my phone just disappear. Some sort of cloud service would be a great benefit to the integration. I am encouraged by the development of an iPad version and hope that is an indicator that this app will see continued refinement and improvements. Some other reviews mention that they had version 3 which featured invoicing and that that feature has been removed in v4 and split off into a seperate app. Quality development simplifies convergence rather than pulling things apart as a money grab. And I really dislike having the mac environment turn into a cluttered sea of apps rather than have a few quality ones. At $40 I would expect to see this be full featured in its own right. Bug fixes and updates are nice to see. I hope future updates expand functionality though beyond just playing around with the visual experience.

Worst "upgrade" ever!

Didnt import from v 3.x properly (all account balances WAY out after upgrade). Cant reconcile accounts properly, balances are always off. Much less intuitive to use than previous version. Cant get it to sync at all with iPhone, which was the only reason I purchased the much more expensive new version in the first place. Would happily upgrade back to v3!

Does not support tags

V4.2 was a minor improvement over older versions. Most disappointing was that the developers dont seem to be getting the message that TAGS and the ability to SEARCH and REPORT based on the users TAGS is really important. Its weird, because it could be so much better with this feature.

Has great UI improvements, but still a big step backwards from v3.x

A nice looking UI and some nice Lion features (full-screen, etc, iCloud apparently coming soon too according to their blog) - overall its an OK app. Does what it says it does, but sometimes not too logically, at least in my terms of thinking. Example, the Loan account doesnt quite make sense: for example, my parents gave me a loan of $3,000.00, I want to set an account to transfer money to so I know its being paid, however I cant specify how much to pay and how often, rather I can only specify the period of time the loan is for (which doesnt apply in a family loan) and the amortization rate, etc. I guess thats nice for a bank-style loan, but what about the simple friend/family loan which most people get? Second example; the down arrows would symbolize to me to mean expense, or going down in funds. However, it is green in colour which symbolizes the opposite to me. The same applies to the up arrow, it is red in colour. Not sure I understand the logic to that. Seems like there are just a lot of oversights. Beware too, that their support is very poor. They even rarely answer to their "fans" on Facebook. Their emails are usually days later than they tell you to expect. They always told me they liked my feedback and would incorporate it in the next build, but I have yet to see any of it come to fruition many version updates later. :-/

Finally

Finally a program that does everything exactly the way I want it to. Both on iPhone and Mac. Its pricey but now I can stop looking for a better expense tracking solution. You can try a free trial on their website by the way.

My bank is not listed

My Canadian bank account is not listed so I cannon download transactions. Customer support indicated they hope in the future it will be however, could not provide an anticipated date. Would have been nice to know I could not use the program before I purchased it.

Very Happy

Ive been using Money since version 3 for personal and my small business needs. It does exactly what I need it to do, and what it claims it can do; I love the reports I can generate as well. So version 4 for me was a no brainer. Happy I upgraded. The iPad sync is a great / convenient feature also. Thank you Jumsoft for your speedy replies when I was in need, and your great and friendly support.

Unreliable

Im alway kick out when I used the programmator. Its also does not do the right calculation if you are changing a date of a transaction, this one had created me a lot a problem, cause I did not expected. Do not recommend at all, this is not a game, I need a software that I could trust.

Nice app

I really like this application. I currently use it to manage a collocation with a few friends and it works very well… when it starts… I dont know why, but it has a tendency to freeze on startup when my computer wakes from sleep. Doing a force quit usually fix the problem. Its annoying but not a deal breaker. Aside from that, I wish to see better and more customizable support for different kind of credit accounts.

Completely broken update

This update to supposedly support Mountain Lion is a) incredibly late b) broken. Sitting with the Money window open but nothing being done results in cpu usage arounf 80%. UI responsiveness is terrible. Worse, it actually argues with the user! Scroll an account an try to select a transaction - boom, it scrolls back to where it was when the account opened. Try to resize a column - to see dates properly for example - and no, it jumps the column width back how *it* wants things. Somebody really failed to test this before releasing it. Bad, bad, software company.

No more iCloud sync!

The dev removed sync from the latest version, which was one of the most advertised features of this app. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Canadian Banks not supported!

The developers should make it clear in the description of this product that direct downloading from banks is available only for American banks - Canadian banks are not supported. This is very disappointing. Also, I find it very frustrating that there does not appear to be a good way to categorize your transactions except to manually categorize each one.

pretty, but terrible.

Well I hate to write a bad review, I really do. Not just cause I normally dont have time. But Ive spent so much time trying to make this app work for me I feel its my responsibility to try to save others from the same fate. Good things: Really nice looking. Slick design, pleasant on the eyes for someone who is aesthetically sensitive. Bad things: First, Im a Canadian customer, and I bank with four different enormous Canadian banks. The app doesnt support any of them. I know theres only 34 million people in our country but how hard is it to add our 5 largest banks to your roster? seriously. They operate worldwide and have assets ranging from $350 billion to $750 billion, and theyre not important enough to get on board? So Im stuck with manual downloads. The feature for allowing access to the banks website within the app is ok, but for a few exceptions: 1. the app does not recognize duplicate transactions. So every time I go to download new transactions there are a few duplicates. I have to delete them manually 2. the app changed the "transaction date" to the date I downloaded the transactions. It only did this twice, sometimes it works fine. Not ok. 3. would be smart if all transactions from a certain vendor, once categorized, downloaded as the same category. They do not. manual entry every time. 4. the app does not EVER show the correct balance on my accounts. I always have to figure out how much its out and add an adjustment to account for it. Its always out by some bizarre amount I cant figure out why this is happening. 5. Contacted support multiple times about these issues and they cant help. They say theyre working on fixing all of these issues, but cant offer a timeline for when they will be done. They say there might be a way to solve the categorization problem but didnt offer specific suggestions. overall: wait for a few versions from now or use excel. Its easier.

Icloud sync still missing

Just see the title, without that tool the App is for an iPhone/ipad - Mac user worthless. I don´t like to run a spec. WiFi sync procedure, the expactation is that the all data on all devices are automatically updated.

Product is only good for US users

You can not download any Canadian Financial Institutes and all stocks etc… are in us funds regardless of what you put in the preferences. Money support only keeps saying they are working on this. Not much in the way of support and they take days to get back to you.

Stay away

Although they advertise that you can import Quicken files, after months and hours of trying, I gave up. I contacted them and informed me that I could my money back. They sent me to Apple who could not refund the money. For some reason they cannot write a cheque for $40. I would never recommend this product as it is hard to use, does not provide the features advertised. I contacted technical support several times and did not get any results.

DropBox Syncing Fixes My 1 Longstanding Issue

I’ve been using Money as a desktop only app since version 3, and the one thing it lacked was a solid way, (not physically syncing) to sync between the iPhone app an and the desktop client when I wanted to add expenses while on the road. With dropbox sync, they’ve finally got a good syncing solution. So what was always a great desktop app is now even easier to use well with a decent phone app. If you run your own business, (like I do), or just like to keep track of your bank accounts, and expenses, Money is a great app. It’s very easy to compile reports and compare expenses and track cash flow, and you don’t need a background in accounting. Definitely worth the money.

Sync with latest version very disappointing

Forcing me to use drop box in order to use the app on my mobile has forced me to find another application to use
